What is RAC in Indian Railways?

RAC stands for Reservation Against Cancellation. It is a unique feature of Indian Railways that allows passengers to book a ticket even when all confirmed seats are sold out. While RAC tickets do not guarantee a full berth, they ensure that you can board the train and have a reserved seat, albeit shared with another passenger.

In simple terms, RAC is a middle ground between a confirmed ticket and a waiting list ticket. It means you have a reserved seat, but it might be shared with another RAC passenger until a confirmed berth becomes available due to cancellations.
